The Village

The Village

Apart from the inhabitants of the castle there was a small hamlet at the bottom of the moraine close to the castle. This was destroyed in the second world war, and never rebuilt.

In the 19th century, the country estates Duno and Westerbouwing were built. The first residents of these estates came here for the forest, the height difference and the view.

At the beginning of the 20th century, there were plans to build villas in the forest on the moraine but a forest fire threw a spanner in the works.

In the 1960s and 1970s, the municipality of Renkum built several neighborhoods and a few flats that now form the current small village.

The current village is a peaceful place, and most of the neighborhoods are built such that it gives the idea that you live in the forest, which is unique for the densely populated Netherlands.
The center offers the required necessities, such as a supermarket and pharmacy. The city center of Arnhem, at a distance of a 15-minute ride, provides for any additional wishes.
A high amount of restaurants are present in and around the village, as a result of the many tourists visiting the surroundings.
