Oosterbeek Walking Route (Operation Market Garden)

Oosterbeek Walking Route (Operation Market Garden)

Short Description

This walking route follows a historically significant path through key locations from the Battle of Arnhem during World War II. The route passes by the Airborne Cemetery and former landing zones such as Lichtenbeek Estate, restaurant De Leeren Doedel (once an English medical post), and Johannahoeve, a battlefield from the early days of the battle. In Wolfheze, the route goes through the famous railway tunnel used by the British to escape and continues through the Wolfhezer Woods, a heavily contested area. The route then leads through the beautiful forests of the former De Hemelsche Berg estate, part of the 1st British Airborne Division’s defense in September 1944. The walk ends along the northern boundary of the British bridgehead, surrounded by silent witnesses of the battle, where every house and tree has a story to tell.
